Overview

The Megger MIT1015 Essential 10kV Insulation Resistance Tester is a rugged, entry-level instrument designed for high-voltage diagnostic testing and maintenance of electrical assets. As part of Megger’s Essential range, it delivers professional-grade insulation resistance testing at a reasonable price point, without compromising on advanced analytical capabilities. Built to be reliable and precise, the MIT1015 is perfect for testing rotating machinery, transformers, switchgear, motors, generators, bushings, and high-voltage cables across industrial, utility, and maintenance environments.

The MIT1015 has a maximum test voltage of 10kV and can measure insulation resistance up to 20TΩ with high accuracy (±5% up to 2TΩ and ±20% up to 20TΩ). It features a short-circuit current of 3mA and allows users to select voltage steps from 40V to 1kV in 10V increments. The MIT1015 also includes capacitance measurement capabilities ranging from 10nF to 25µF, and current measurement from 0.01nA to 6mA, making it suitable for a wide range of insulation diagnostics.

The MIT1015 supports timed insulation resistance testing modes including IR(t), Polarisation Index (PI), and Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR), which are essential for assessing insulation ageing and quality. It also includes Megger’s patented PI predictor (Plp), which estimates PI values early in the test to save time. The RE>Act mode measures reabsorption current to avoid false pass/fail results, which improves the reliability of test outcomes. A guard terminal is included to reduce surface leakage currents, improving measurement accuracy in challenging conditions.

The MIT1015 is designed to prioritise safety as it carries a CAT IV 600 V safety rating and is certified to operate at altitudes up to 3000 meters. It has a five-level voltage warning system, automatic capacitive discharge for safe handling post-test, and locking high-voltage plugs with non-removable clips to prevent accidental disconnection. With a dual-case construction, which includes a fire-retardant inner case and a rugged outer shell, the MIT1015 ensures durability in harsh environments. Plus, a IP65 rating (when the lid is closed), provides protection against dust and moisture ingress, making it suitable for outdoor and industrial use. Velcro-on pouches on the lid ensures that accessories are kept secure and accessible at all times.

The MIT1015 is powered by a long-lasting 10.8V, 5.2Ah lithium-ion rechargeable battery, that provides up to 4.5 hours of continuous testing at 10kV. A 30-minute quick charge provides approximately one hour of operation, and the unit can also be powered directly from AC mains power when needed. The MIT1015 includes a high-contrast, backlit LCD display that makes it readable in direct bright sunlight or low-light conditions. It also features analogue arc representation for visual feedback of insulation resistance values, as well as intuitive dual rotary controls and a graphical quick-start guide under the lid for convenience.

A built-in USB interface allows for the rapid transfer of test results to a PC, simplifying data management. The MIT1015 supports Megger’s PowerDB Lite software, which allows users to store, organise, and report up to 1000 test records efficiently. This makes it an excellent tool not only for field diagnostics but also for long-term asset condition monitoring and compliance documentation.
